Pingus is a puzzle game similar to lemmings, though with penguins. The objective is to use the Pingu's various skills such as mining, jumping, and climbing to reach the exit. The PC version can be found here: Pingus PC.

The directory structure has been completely reworked in preparation for the new engine. Once we finish the structure change we can begin isolating/ testing the new engine.

We have just rewrote our saving function, we no longer rely on lua's compiler to encrypt the save but rather we made our own. It is just about impossible to decrypt our saves unless you dig into our code, even then the save encryption changes on every save done by the game so almost no two save files are the same. There also might be some added protection to block sharing of saves, we will have to see about that.

Thanks, Redwolfhome and I started this project around 2010 June. Though we have put this project on the shelf a few times after our first engine failed. We have brought back the project with a second engine, based the entire game off it, and we are trying a new engine that is similar to the first. If the new engine works we can automate collision mapping.


As for the save feature we cant block sharing saves but you cant edit them unless you know how we encrypt it. So even the slightest change will through off the save file and it will reset.( So do not edit your save files )

If our new engine works, almost all the bugs will be fixed, and it will make the miner, and builder ability so much easier to program and less buggy.


One Major change you will see with the new engine is that the level images are now a 1:1 ratio with the pc game so you can use the level editor. To help the user see more of the map to plan their actions, we might add a zoom feature while they are paused.

And lastly my WaveCrave program might actually get used for once! . If we have the extra ram ( which we should ) We will most likely use wavecrave to allow pingus music to be playing.

Anyone wondering on the size, currently we are at 14.1 MB without any of our programs and only a few levels.

Great job! I'm always fascinated with the quality of projects seen here without any monetary compensation and the many time put into it.

I, myself, wouldn't ever have the motivation to do such thing.

I'm patiently awaiting for this to be released.

We have tested the new engine and it actually works on the player and it is fairly precise. We are going to be optimizing the code as much as possible to make it run smoother.

With this new engine, we rewrote the digger function in only about 5 lines instead of about 50 lines! Now any ability that can dynamically change the ground can be done extremely fast : digger,miner,basher,builder,bomber.

With this new engine, we just wrote the miner, basher, and digger ability all under 10 minutes, and the builder will only take a minute. With this new engine, Pingus X-Fi2 will be done in a couple of months or less if all goes well.

We can now run 7 penguins all at once, and a digger ability at the same time with absolutely no slow down at all, before it would really start to lag. we can also use the fast forward button with only an occasional bug-- easy fix

Thanks, keep in mind RedWolfHome is also doing alot of the work as well, it is not just me ( that would take forever).

WARNING!!!!!!! DO NOT RUN THIS GAME ON THE PLAYER WITH LESS THEN 25% BATTERY LEFT! IT MAY CAUSE UNWANTED CRASHES AND ERRORS WITH THE PLAYER!

This warning is real believe it or not, if this is run under 25% of battery the player will completely freeze/crash at any loading point within the game. We do not know why, only that is does crash.
