Default Cowon D2 might be dying, replacement?

My D2 (not +) may be on its way out. I've been happy with this unit from day 1, zero complaints. Since I've been happy with it, I've been away from this site. What might be a suitable replacement for the D2?

The J3? It's my favorite Cowon of all time (besides the X5), and replaced my D2 and S9.

The newer C2 is more of a downgrade, not an upgrade, in my opinion.

Perhaps the Cowon J3 or C2? What do you want? How much do you want to spend? I guess the J3 is probably the best choice, if you don't mind the price. What do you want in an mp3 player?

There still aren't any players under $100 with a card slot and 50+ hours of battery life.
I am still waiting for one.

well, i'd like 16g minimum, never used the card slot though. like the battery life of the D2, so if they've improved that, great! I have an iPhone, but i hate itunes and the way transfers work, so i have no interest in just using that for my music. budget is an issue, but not a dealbreaker.

EDIT: actually price should be $100-150 i suppose.

The 16GB C2 is $150, however the 16GB J3 is $200. an 8GB J3 is $180. I guess some get an 8GB J3 then add a 32GB card.

The Sony E465 is only around $110 and has 16GB but no card slot. it gets 40+ hours battery life, so it is a bit less than the J3 or D2, but still much longer than most other players.

Player makers are trying to make smaller players, so they seem to be cutting battery life quite often. There aren't many players that get over 30 hours of battery life. That is why usb battery packs have become quite popular. I use them with my Clip+.

A refurbished 16GB Cowon J3 can be bought for $155+shipping from Jetaudio:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...on=refurbished

Last time I bought a refurbished Cowon player,it was in like new perfect condition and the battery was brand new,I'd have confidence to buy another refurbished product from them after that experience.

i've done a little reading today and the C2 seems like a logical step, while the J3 may be the ideal. Haven't read up on any other brands yet. I really like my D2 and hope the issue i'm seeing (plugged in for 8+ hours to charge and only have 1 battery bar) is a fluke.

How much battery life are you getting now? Lion batteries do wear out.

If it is just a battery problem, then you could have the battery in your D2 replaced. I guess the battery is probably under $20, however I don't know how much you will need to pay for labor(unless you want to try replacing it yourself).

I can get about 18 hours-ish i think. I just thought it strange that when i charged it last night it didn't seem to add any time. The battery indicator stayed at 1 bar. I may need to totally discharge it and then recharge?

The battery indicators on players can get out of whack. running the battery down completely and charging it fully usually resets them, although you might have to do it twice. I guess if you are still getting 18 hours there isn't an urgent need to swap the battery now. Since you like the player so much, and the J3 and C2 are so expensive, installing a new battery on your D2 makes sense. On much cheaper players, changing the battery usually isn't worth the effort. When the battery dies on a $35 clip+, most people just trash the player and buy a new one.
