More stuff.

  1. That silver thing up there is the volume dial.
  2. Note "TRRS Balanced" switch.
  3. Note the flat connector port on the bottom.

Indeed.

On a somewhat related note, notice it now has an SD card slot. No, not a typo. SD, not microSD. Thought that was interesting. Also, publicity shot of a unit with scratches? Something you don't see every day, and I assume it speaks to the build quality...

TDS: I gotta tell ya, it kind of looks "Russian industrial" if you crop off the rounded top part with the "HiFiMAN" logo and the (really ruins the view IMO) volume dial.

steinburger1109: These units are apparently not production units and their surfaces are not painted/treated. The body (shell) is "carbon fiber composite material" as a literal translation from "碳纤维复合机身". Source: Nankai himself, from that full-of-Chinese picture on the first page.

Russian industrial usually consists of all metal and bomb-proof build quality. Like something out of the cold war. The Russians would have waged war at your reference to them when it comes to this crap,...

I think much of the Soviet space programme is quite the opposite from what you have said there, with rockets so poorly designed/built they blow themselves up.

Also translations up. I think the whole "sounds better than a Linn CD player" is implied enough.

That would explain it.

Upon closer look, the HiFiMan part at the top indeed does make it look really really butt ugly.

Lagoo may have a halfway decent point, seeing as it likely would have changed since the original thread

By the end of the day, let's just hope for:
  • Actually sounds and measures "better" than all the other DAPs out there.
  • No more rolled-off treble and calling that "analog sound". Try listening to vinyl with a low-end Grado cart/needle and DT880s. Rolled-off treble most definitely does NOT equal "analog sound". But I see a 20K/40K switch so that's the user-configurable treble roll-off I guess.
  • Low output impedance. The 801 had 18 ohms with the standard amp module and 36 with the GAME module.
  • No outdated parts and no parts of suspicious origin.
  • A somewhat usable UI.
Let's just wait and see.

Agreed, except for the last point -- At $1250, I'd demand an astoundingly intuitive and pleasurable UI.

The online demo does present a moderately unique GUI (ignoring the grotesque use of seriffed fonts), but so far it appears to fall far short of astounding...

I'd also add seriously long battery life to the list.

The UI demo is HORRID!!! And at $1,250 it's just another piece of audiophile tomfoolery!!! And, as usual, I bet the battery life can't pass 12hrs. And at that price,... thieves.

I really don't have much hope. Personal experience from contacting a lot of Chinese electronics.

I wonder what other buzzwords will they cook up to promote this plastic carbon fiber composite brick.

Also I have a question for the more technically-inclined here: does transforming 3.7V to 5V generate "high-frequency interference" that can "audibly damage the sound"? Or is that more audiophile BS?

For $1250 this thing should come with an expensive pair of headphones along with a 128GB SDXC card lol Then it would all make sense lol
