With it's look, it fits in with these fine, although this is 2012

Actually I do like the look of this player, but there's no way I'm plunking down my hard earned money for it. It will be kind of interesting to see the way consumers react to it.

Sure it has a kind of old school charm to it. That is hardly enough though.

If I want a rustic looking player I'll bang two rocks together. For that price I can have some rocks for old school cool, a modern player, tablet and ultrabook. I could even use my old walkman cassette player if I want to look retro, it still works.

Don’t get me wrong there’s a few of those older players that I love the look on, iriver H series especially, vision M, X5, etc … I just feel that a player made in 2012 for over $1,000.00 does not have to sport an old school look and it makes me wonder whats inside it

Well, the iriver daps looked sweet, and my ZV:M still is one smexy MoFo. This, it's damn fugly. And the iriver & creative dap's had KILLER SQ TOO!!!

But, honestly, I hope the SQ and battery life DO turn out to be spectacular. I'm tired of seeing all the half assed over priced players be sold to people who blindly think it's so great. They believe their fellow audiophile's who'll say something is the next best thing since the invention of the wheel. It's gotten so bad the tests they swore by are now called BS, which is ridiculous. Please, make this one actually WORK!!!

IMO all this is getting tiresome,...make us WRONG for a change,...if you CAN.

Subjectively my RH1 sounds the best among the digital players I own, including CD players. The warmth and reduced analytical qualities (subjectively) really mask a lot of the compressed distortion crap found in a large portion of Vocaloid songs.

...Anyway, at this point I'm not expecting the 901 to be better than the 801. Because the 801 "sounds identical to the Meridian 508/588" and the 901 "sounds better than a Linn CD player", if you really want to talk about it, it comes down to Linn vs. Meridian. Oh the humanity. If HiFiMAN keeps up this trend then by HM-2001 it would have defeated the 50-grand Burmester. I am only half-joking.

ADD: Just because a $8000 CD player or a $15000 DAC also rolls off the treble doesn't justify anything about the 801. Most probable case: Those things are even more overpriced POS.

ADD 2: And no, that's not because of a Gorram Butterworth filter.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks for putting them into words.

I'm...not exactly sure either. That seemed way too emphatic to be sincere...but knowing The DarkSide, I'd wager it actually was. Posting on a Red Bull binge, TDS?

No problems here man, I like your style! You speak your mind, and that's what I appreciate in a person.

Now. Back to this plastic (or excuse me, carbon fiber composite) brick. Care to make some guesses/predictions like what Apple snobs like to do?
