Default How to format Cowon X5 running Rockbox, please

Hello - I'm fearful that this forum is so old that my post will go unnoticed. Anyway, I just bought a gently used Cowon X5 running Rockbox (v.3.10) so that I can play FLACs. I'm very excited to use it but cannot find, for the life of me, anywhere in the Rockbox documentation (nor the user screens) where/hot to format it. There are a ton of songs/games on here already, none of which I want.

Could someone please tell me the best way to format this and/or any other suggestions on clearing out songs/games.

Cheers!

If you format it, you’ll have to reload the .rockbox folder or it won’t boot correctly.

Edit: I missed the games question. If the games are the ones that come with rockbox, look in the rockbox folder/rocks/games and you can manually delete if you wish.

Hey, thank you very much for the reply! Okay, so I suspect that I would also be able to manually delete the music on here as well via the same/similar mode?

Sorry, I neglected to mention that I have yet to load up any software/drivers on my XP box to connect to the Cowon. I am a long-time CZM user and have always just made it a point to format the drives upon receipt (for which, is very easy on all the Creatives).

So if this, in fact, the case, it sounds to me like there is no need to format the Cowon then...just go in and delete stuff at will. No issues around fragmentation either? I guess I'm not opposed to totally wiping the disk and starting from scratch then re-installing the Rockbox, but if there's not a need, I figure why go through the trouble then.

Geez...this got long. Anyway, thanks for the help!

If you do format, keep in mind that the OF is patched and that rockbox will not load without the .rockbox folder. If you are going to remove rockbox, you’d have to install a copy of the OF that is not patched.

*Edit: I just realize that dual boot does not currently work on the X5, so I would recommend looking over the manual before you format http://download.rockbox.org/daily/ma...box-build.html

Yeah, that manual blows.

I installed Jetshell and am able to see the X5 and add some FLACs. Playing nicely now. Easy enough. The database is what is tripping me up (which has all of the previous owner's music, even though the files are all gone). It is updating now, but taking a very long time. Hopefully it will update and see only the 4 files I just uploaded and I can build it from there.

I did see the Games/Apps folders. So, is it as easy as just going in and deleting those files then? No harm done to the player/Rockbox OS? Speaking of Rockbox...wow, amazed at how much it can do. It is going to take me a week just to learn all the features, sheesh!

Again, thank you for any suggestions you on on clearing the dB out. Cheers.

EDIT: okay, all set. Yup, cleared out the dB and am now rebuilding it per file uploaded. This sw is pretty damn easy. Nice! Thanks again.

Why are you using Jetshell software, there's no need. The player connects to your pc in MSC mode so dragging and dropping music files from windows explorer is the easiest IMO.

I won't be doing that now...for some reason my XP box wasn't recognizing the Cowon initially so I thought I had to install drivers. But, everything is working great and listening to FLACs via mobile is pretty mindblowing.

You never did get back to me wrt the deletion of games/apps. Is it as simply as just going in an deleting those files?

Thank you....think I will be all set after this (until the time I need to replace the battery and/or upgrade to CF memory, ha).

You must have missed the "Edit" in post #2 a few seconds after posting, if you don't want them just manually delete all the games.
