The Clip is much easier to setup. For all intents and purposes there isn't any setup. Drop a mp3 file into the podcast or audiobook folder and it bookmarks.
The Clip will also play bitrates much lower than a Sony. I wouldn't think converting to be a big deal with spoken word files usually but it's a step some prefer to avoid so it's a nice option for them to have. There's also playback speed options on the Clip. I'm not a audiobook user so I'm not sure how useful those are.
