The player is now up on the iriver website: http://www.iriver.com/product/view.asp?pCode=001&pNo=91

How about putting it on the front page as news!!!

That page is a laugh riot! First they blab about their supposedly epic Wolfson DAC "the world's highest performing 24/192 stereo DAC", then they tell you that you can use it with an external DAC.

If it's so awesome, why do you need an external one? For audiophools only, I think.

Also, the graphs says it's amazingly neutral, but real life measurements say it's a POS. Iriver is full of shit!!!

BTW: some idiot is raving about it being the best sounding player EVA!!! on eBay. Only $999.00,...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/iRiver-Astel...item337ce9cdd4

PS: I luv the look OS this, except for the strangely placed volume knob. $250.00 and better measurements and I'd have tried it out. But I'd defile it with mp3's!!!

I'm curious why the Korean ad on the ebay listing only shows 32gb microsd support. You'd think you could get 128gb out of two cards +32 internal. But a cool G and that dopey volume knob rules me out.

They best fix those slots as the 32 is been bested by the 64 for a long time now

You got a link for the reviews? I am very curious about what's being said because this player is supposed sound better than most other players.

Ok, this is the link to the head-fi thread on it. Your going to have to sift through all the posts & locate the fact from the fake. It's basically (from RMAA testing & linked charts) got quite a bit of rolloff. Even iriver keeps flipping and flopping on what they recommend as far as headphones & iem's they "recommend" you use with it. Sadly, it's a flawed player with a sexy look and nice looking firmware.

Here's the link - happy reading: http://www.head-fi.org/t/630288/the-...a-high-end-dap

I believe excessively high output impedance is the big flaw, although I stopped reading that thread....lol.

Yeah, that might be one culprit. But, tbh, I'm about to hit the sack so I'll make even less sense than I normally do.

Is that even possible?

So, you like it "stiff" eh,...;p

I'd have preferred the volume knob to be on the top and not the side. I'd hate to pocket it like it is.

Concerning the sq, too bad it's flawed. I wonder if it's truly a hardware issue,...or could a software update solve the problem? Then I'd consider it,...even with it's crap battery life.

There's supposed to be 2 other models coming out soon. Let's see how they stack up.

I hope you guys aren't ragging on this player because some guy on head-fi ragged on it? Unless its someone you trust. I find it really hard to find anyone worth listening to over there. I mean those guys will write whatever to sell their own products, so I can imagine ragging on competition that doesn't need them for marketing would be something they would do.

I ragged on it, because the rmaa tests were crap, and iriver provided a song and a dance when asked questions. The output impedance is horrible, supposedly, on purpose. Iriver still sux,...

Here are some pretty good RMAA measurements of the AK100...

Interesting.

Especially HDtracks

I personally like the look of this, the small form factor, analogue volume knob, bluetooth etc, but i have learned looks can be very deceiving.
But if its capable of taking two 64gb cards, and has 32gb internal memory and all the songs are integrated into one database and 'on the fly' playlists are easily constructed (good UI etc) and of course the sound is truly fantastic then its an interesting player, probably not nearly worth the price tag but...
My point is there are alot of ands.

I would expect that the cowon X7 or X9 are the closest player to this, one offering 160gb space (the x7), bluetooth (x7) etc, and of course good sound.

But perhaps someone can answer me this. Is this player doing something different than other cowon players like J3 etc in that when it plays FLAC files it does a better job? Like... it looks like to me they're making a song and dance about FLAC, like as if its a new thing and players of old don't support or do FLAC very well etc.
