Would the next update be for ICS?

That would be the next logical step up from Gingerbread.

"Logical" might be Honeycomb, preferred would be ICS.

why would they use honeycomb next?

My only logic is: 2.3.5.....3.2.....4.0

Honeycomb is for tablets. The Galaxy S is not getting ICS but there is a ICS port from cyanogenmod.

The SGP isn't big enough for honeycomb to be logical, IMO.
Samsung never said ICS isn't coming, only that out will first be brought to newer players/phones, and that then they well assess the need for it on other devices. |

Ditto. I have a stock SGP 4.0 (US) and a couple nit picky issues aside (e.g. EXIF tagging quirks in snapped pics) it just works. I went in fully expecting a buggy gen one product but it is surprisingly glitch free. *knock wood*

Mine works good minus the battery isn't what is expected for having a big 2500 Maj. Other then that it works pretty well

Mine goes at least two days without needing a recharge, though I plug it in most nights at least till it's back to 80%, 100% if i'm going to be gone for a while the next day.

Which firmware are you running? I got one of the pre-USA release versions running Froyo and the battery life was pretty bad. Flashed to Gingerbread and it has been much better. (Also got vastly improved GPS locking with the flash).

I haven't got the confirmation from Samsung yet but I guess you can forget ICS on the Galaxy Players 4.0 and 5.0. Indeed the Galaxy S won't be upgraded officially for technical reasons (they claimed that there is no enough memory for both ICS and Touchwizz ) so there is no reason that the galaxy players with almost the same hardware spec get it

Samsung has a hard time to put ICS to some of its mega-seller smartphones so for the poor selling underated under-radar SGP i have no hope for ICS.
Anyway you can do like a lot of people who had Windows XP and customized it to look like ICS. You can download some ics skins and the music player in ICS, etc

They're not even updateing their good phones. Forget the Galaxy Wifi.

But I still have some hope about seeing CyanogenMod 9 on Galaxy Players...

Right now I'm working on a build of CM7 and after I'll try to build CM9 (I have a AOSP ICS build but I can't finish it. I don't know why)

I got the confirmation from Samsung.
As expected, no official ICS release is planned for G1 and G70
