Default Getting new mp3.

I am getting a new mp3 player for Christmas (of my choice.) I have been seriously thinking of buying a Sansa fuze! I was wondering about the screen resolution, and quality of picture. Also my main reason for picking this devise is that it supports rockbox, witch is a big deal maker for me. (I don't buy an mp3 player that doesn't suport rockbox.) But I was wondering if there are any better mp3 players that support rockbox that I could get. One down side is that there is no volume rocker on the side of the fuze, + I am worried about the resolution. Please give me some Ideas and your opinions.

Note: I am new, so please excuse the messy forman. I will get "into the flow" of things here soon.

The screen is nothing special at all, (I think it is 220x176, if I remember rightly)and you're right, there is no volume rocker....you have to use the wheel to control your volume.

And of course, they haven't made them in several years now....so you don't know how much life will be in the battery.

Hmmm... Well do you have a suggestion for a good mp3 that supports rockbox? I'd appreciate it allot.
I was also thinking of the new sansa fuze+, but I heard allot of bad reviews about the navigation. And I am not too fond of touch pads. I like to stick with physical buttons unless its a touch screen that is very responsive.

It's "mp3 player", not "mp3".

And the clip+, clipzip, and ipod's all do Rockbox quite nicely.

I own a clip+, but I feel limited by its screen, I am looking for something with a bigger color screen, and not the new zip, it has the same resolution as the clip, making the use of a color screen obsolete, because album art would not be worth looking at.
And yes I-pod classic is nice, and would be my first choice if it wasn't for three killers. One is the price, it would suck my wallet dry. Second it has a touch wheel. The third is that it does not support rockbox! The second one isn't that bad, but I still like to stick with the physical wheel, but if I could buy an iPod classic at a lower price, plus rockbox support I would.

Then look for an iPod 5G or 5.5G....the proper name for them is iPod Video, but a lot of people mistakenly call them Classics. They support Rockbox just fine, even can install with the Rockbox Utility.

Thank you very much for your help. I am now choosing between the iPod 5g for $80 on Amazon or the Sansa fuze for $70. I think I will go for the ipod, even though I try to stay away from apple products, I think I will make an acception this time.

(please excuse the bad spelling)

One last note? How bad do you think the battery life decay of the Sansa Fuze is?

Honestly, I don't know....and in all fairness, it would apply to the iPod 5G/5.5G as well. Those at least give you greater capacity options and many more aftermarket accessories.

Ok. What about replacement batteries? Would a company like power99 still make batteries? I searched there website and found batteries for the Sansa Fuze, but I can't tell what year they are created, or if there still being created.
And would my battery life of my Sansa Fuze be very bad? Would it be unusable? or would it just be reduced about 50%?

(Thank you for your patience with me. )

If I had to guess, (and I could very well be wrong) it might be about the same as a new Clip+/Clip Zip.

I never knew anyone was making replacements for the Fuze.

Could you be wrong, in that the battery life might not be as bad as you say? (lol.) Or you might be wrong in that it might be worse? Or bothe? (lol again) Does battery life rilly degrade that bad over time? And so if I were to charge it, it wouldn't stay charged for 24 hours, but 7-20 hours?! (Thats the wide range of the clip+ battery life.)

Well, even a brand new one when they were new, 24 hours was an estimate, assuming 128kbps files, no EQ, etc. I used to get around 20 or 21 hours consistently.

But as to how would one of them behave now, there's a lot of variables that could come into play...if used, how did the former user treat it...if new, how long has it sat in a box with no charge.....etc, etc.

Just a couple of things. The newer Classic can be Rockboxed using Emcore. It's not quite as simple as using the automated installer but the port has moved forward nicely and some are reporting it works very well for them.

The other thing is that it's best to consider the battery in the Fuze as non-replaceable. Getting a Fuze back together after opening it is tricky at best. Also, there may be batteries around to fit a Fuze but there's no standardized supply line like there is with iPod parts. There's also multiple guides available on how to fix up a iPod Classic or iPod Video that aren't available for the Fuze.

Adding that all together makes the iPod a much better choice as a Rockbox candidate than the Fuze to me.
