I think it's a great idea - and one that is sorely needed here!

To all: If you've gotten an AV cable that works perfectly with the ZVM, please post its brand name and description here!

Default AV Cable in Scandinavia

Hello all

For you guys living in the Scandinavian countries, there is a standard A/V cable you can buy at "Teknikmagasinet" for 54Sek (~6Eur) It works fine if you put the red plug in the yellow connector and vice versa.

Default Found one on ebay

I tried some different cables, but could not find one to work...

until I looked on ebay. I found one that connected directly to my zen and did not need the dongle. I liked that part the best! The cable is retractable and feels kind of cheap, but, considering that I didn't have to spend $30 to buy one from creative, I don't mind so much and I'll try to be careful with it. I paid $12.17USD (shipping to Canada included).

The seller's name is ishoppingdeals4u and is an ebay powerseller.

I got the bay one from that same seller that mikethebass mentioned but you need the dongle. They work good as well.

Kinda OT, but the Accurian cable sold at Radio Shack, as well as the RS branded one, does NOT work with the ZVM...

(Guatiao is still looking for a cheap alternative for a video cable on eBay...)

Thumbs up

My cable from DayDeal was about $9 and works flawlessly, They also have the direct connect without the dongle but I chose the mini usb connect so I can charge while playing. Their charger works great too!

Okay,

I have a question, and probably have confused myself.

When we are talking about the AV cables that allow you to watch the video on the TV screen, are there cables that plugin to the top of the Zen M that allow you to watch the video without attaching the dongle at the bottom?

I just want to be sure I understand this before purchasing any cables.

I would rather just plug it in the top and watch the video, but I am not sure if this is possible.

Thanks,

Ross

The top is only audio. You have to attach the dongle to get video out.

well.. i would just much rather make my own av cable.. its not very hard! only problem is that i cant just find a 4 pole jack.. just the end of the cable.. i can get the rca plugs from radioshack.. so insead of paying for shiping or paying the 20 bucks for any of them that are made just for that player. i can see myself paying around 4 bucks for the whole thing, plus i can make it like 20 feet long..

Let me caution you against making the cable too long. Unlike audio, composite video signals have much larger bandwidth requirements, and long distances can really degrade the video signal.

what i meant was that i could make one that long.. never really thought about the signal strength before.. but if anyone could find a four pole jack, i would really appreciate it!

Chiming in with my first post at this forum. Good stuff here! I'm glad I found it.

I love my Zen Vision: M and I think it's the best player out right now for a lot of reasons. I'm impressed with the navigation and the video quality .

I'm not impressed with the dongle but hey if there's ever a tradeoff, I can deal with this as one.

My first visit to this website was in search of A/V cable compatibilities for my ZVM. While I wouldn't mind tooling with a standard cable to convert it for my needs, I just don't have the time or the desire to do so. As a result, I went to Fry's Electronics here and found an IBook A/V cable for $19 out the door. It works beautifully. Not only that, it's a nice-looking white cable that goes with my player and its accessories. :-)

When I read the comments on the article about the compatible cables, I read one that said the cables that just have the red and white work. I tried that with my portable dvd player cable that is only red and white and it works. When I use it with a tv, I have to pull the cable out of the dongle a little bit and the sound is so so but picture looks pretty good. When I hooked it up to my stereo system, I could put the cable into the dongle all the way and I got full sound, not just mono like some of the people were saying on the comments. I was pretty satisfied and relieved that I dont have to go out and buy a cable.
