Smile UMS Firmware Wanted

Hello,

I really hope someone can help me as I've searched the web without success
for UMS firmware/boot loader files for my iRiver H10 20Gb.

Any link I've ever found is either dead or leads me to a page in Korean that
doesn't appear to have anything you can click on that begins a download.

There MUST be someone somewhere that can get these files and I'm hoping that
someone here can help.

I bought my H10 last week and after much hair-pulling have found out that
it's an MTP version which cannot be accessed via my Windows XP machines. I
have since learned that there's a UMS version of the firmware that will
allow me to just plug the player via USB to my PC (as with my iHP-120
player) and I'd dearly love to just be able to get hold of the firmware and
boot loader files to allow me to convert my MTP version to the UMS variety.

Also, if someone can direct me to a link to get these files, I'd also
appreciate a simple guide to upgrading the firmware on my H10. I have no
music on the player at the moment, so am not worried about losing anything.

PLEASE HELP !!

Regards

Steve

Yeah since misticriver.net hat shut down it is a bit difficult to find iRiver resources for older players.

As far as I know, the H10 20GB only shipped with MTP firmware. The UMS firmware is for H10 5/6GB.

I personally have firmware 2.51E MTP on my H10 20GB.

However,
-It's possible to connect it in UMS to the computer. It's explained here in the "before starting" section: http://download.rockbox.org/daily/ma....html#x4-60002
-With Rockbox, the connection is UMS only.

Thanks so much!

I have now followed the guide you kindly provided and have installed Rockbox onto my iRiver H10 20Gb and now I can access the player directly via my USB connection on my Windows XP PC.

One thing I have noticed though, which I'm not sure is a H10 issue or a Rockbox problem is the sluggish response of the unit at times. I also own an iRiver iHP-120 and that is crisply responsive and simple to use by comparison.

Have you noticed the slow response times on your H10?

Yeah my H10 is sometimes slow too but I think it's because the HDD is old and dying. Well... my iHP-140 is older and works fine though.

It depends on what you mean by slow, for me it's very slow -and unexpected- memory access with strange HDD noise at some points, that's why I think the HDD is dying.

If you mean slow at loading database files, maybe you should try Database>Load to RAM>Yes

Thanks for the tip regarding placing the DB into RAM. I will figure this out and see how it goes.

The H10 is sluggish with regards to some basic operations sometimes. For example, when I selected to go to the next track, it didn't respond for around 20 seconds! This doesn't happen much, but I'm wondering if the Rockbox firmware places a heavier demand on the H10's hardware.

Oh, BTW, my H10 is virtually new! So, there's nothing wrong with the HDD.

Still much prefer my iHP 120 and I've just taken delivery today of an iHP 140 too!

I wonder, do you remember how on the iHP players I can configure backlight time outs etc on the standard iRiver firmware. I did it years ago, but can't remember.

Many thanks.

That already happened to me once or twice too, in both OF and Rockbox IIRC. I don't think that's specific to Rockbox and I don't believe Rockbox is more demanding on hardware, although I'm not a dev.

I must say however, I don't use the H10 regularly. I have so many players as you can see in my sign, I only use a few or them daily, the others are for occasional use and for collection. I use the H10 a bit more those days because I'm currently making a Rockbox theme for it but usually I don't use it much so I'm probably not the most aware of common issues with this model^^

Thanks for that. I actually stumbled upon this while trying to remember how I got to the setup options.

Interestingly, I took delivery of my iHP 140 last week and for some reason the navigation button when pressed left or right which used to always get me to the next or previous tracks seems to jump either forward or backward about 30 seconds within the current track. This is now my fourth iHP player in about 8 years and it's the first one that ever did that!

Sadly, I can't seem to locate the v1.66 iRiver firmware (which I believe was the last version released) to at least see if that fixes the problem. I've compared all the available settings on both players and can't see a difference.

Oh well, not really a problem as such, just a minor niggle.

Apologies, I meant to reply sooner.
Just wanted to say a big thank you for the link. I had thought I'd never find iHP-1xx series firmware anywhere, so I am most grateful for all your kind help.
