Default Feature Comparison Of The Sony E380 And E580

I did some digging around to see what the differences between the E380 and the E580 are. Here are the differences that I could find. Each line has the E380's features listed first, followed by the E580's in parenthesis:

- Price: E385 16GB $95/69 , E585 16GB $??/99
- 1.77" TFT LCD, 128x160 Resolution, LED Backlit, 9 Icons Displayed on Homepage (E580 has 2" LCD, 240x320, 11 Icons)
- No Noise-Cancelling Feature (E580 has Noise Cancelling)
- USB-Mini Connector (E580 has WM-Port)
- Available in 4/8/16GB (E580 available in 8/16GB) - Availability might depend on location
- No DSEE, "Digital Sound Enhancement Engine" (E580 has DSEE)
- Playback Modes: Normal, Shuffle, Repeat, Shuffle & Repeat, Repeat 1 Song (E580 adds: Repeat 1 Song/Selected Range, Display Lyrics, multiple Karaoke Modes)
- Audio: MP3, WMA, AAC, PCM (E580 adds FLAC & Apple Lossless support. These formats are not listed in the E580's specs on it's webpage, but they are specifically mentioned in Sony's official press release)
- Video: WMV9 (E580 adds MPEG4 and AVC)
- No voice recording (E580 has voice recording) - Neither has FM recording
- Includes MDR-NC033 Headphones (E580 upgrades to MDR-NC31 Noise Cancelling Headphones)
- Battery: 30 Hours, 4-Hour Charge Time (E580 is 77 Hours, 2-Hour Charge Time)
- E580 adds "SensMe" - music sorting based on moods
- Minimal differences in size and weight
- Colors: Black (Carbon Fiber graphic), Red (Zig Zag Graphic), Blue (Horizontal Lines graphic) - (E580 is Black "Durable Metallic Finish", Other colors ?)
- No Dedicated "Volume" Buttons: Press the "Up" and "Down" Buttons on the 5-Way Keypad to adjust volume. You can't adjust the volume when a menu is displayed because the Up/Down buttons will be used for menu navigation. (E580 has dedicated Volume buttons on the side)
- No Dedicated "Hold" Switch: Press and hold the "Option" Button to put E380 into Hold mode (E580 has dedicated Hold switch on the side)
- To turn the E380 on: Press the "Option" Button
- To turn the E380 off: First, "Pause" the music playback, then press and hold the "Option" Button
- Podcast support: E380, probably not. E580, yes. E580 has a dedicated "Podcast" icon on the homepage, suggesting Podcast support. There is no Podcast icon on the E380's homepage, but there might (or might not) be an option for podcasts within an internal menu. The E580 also has an option to search by "Bookmarks" (in addition to Artist, Folder, Genre, etc). The E380 does not have the ability to search by "Bookmarks".

Overall, I'd say the E580 is worth the extra cost.
