Please excuse my obsession lol but I just keep finding more and more old songs that are so much better than his new ones.

Doro - Raise Your Fist - 2012

Doro seems to be on a string of meh releases. Not sure what's really missing here, but this one is in the same vein. There's one or two bright spots, but overall pretty mediocre.

Seven Kingdoms - The Fire Is Mine - 2012

Pretty well executed run of the mill power metal, with the differentiating factor being singer Sabrina Valentine. She's kind of weird fit, not hitting the traditional operatic/gothy or trad metal chicks with balls categories. She seems a little laid back in the mix to me. Definitely interested on where they are going with the next one though.

Maeder - Maeder - 2007

Ever since I heard Nic Maeder was going to be the new Gotthard singer, I've been on the prowl for a full version of this (and not the cardboard sleeve bare bones promo) for a decent price. I think they must of made about 10 of them in total, finally tracking one down in Russia. It could have suffered from over anticipation syndrome, but turned out pretty enjoyable. Definitely a little rougher/modern than Gotthard, but you can hear where he would have appealed to those guys as a replacement.

Quote:
review by Eduardo Rivadavia

Having taken their oppressive black metal symphonies to their furious zenith with their third effort, My Arms, Your Hearse, Sweden's Opeth began deconstructing their sound on 1999's brilliant Still Life. A logical next step in their evolution, the album finds the band re-examining their unlikely fusion of progressive rock and black metal to highlight the former while staying in touch with the latter.

The result is a formidable splicing of harsh, often jagged guitar riffs with graceful melodies, and the increasing use of Mikael Åkerfeldt's "clean" vocals (alternated with his ever-present death growl). This tactic only serves to spotlight the quality of Åkerfeldt's lyrics (a rarity in extreme metal circles) and, in the tradition of prior efforts, Still Life is a full-fledged concept album, which, without going into unnecessary details, centers around a tale of unrequited love for a character called Melinda (a discreet reference to Mercyful Fate's early-'80s classic Melissa, perhaps?). Also new to the mix are a wealth of more dynamic, almost groove-oriented riffs (see "Godhead's Lament" and "Serenity Painted Death") which break away from the Wall of Sound overtures of the past.

On the other hand, outstanding, multifaceted epics like "The Moor," "Moonlapse Vertigo," and "White Cluster" carry on in the proud Opeth tradition. The all-acoustic "Benighted" is the album's only one-dimensional track (and a beauty it is, too), while the awesome "Face of Melinda" represents a new career high with its quietly building atmosphere and powerful finale. Ultimately, this is another star turn for the group, and the fact that they somehow managed to outdo themselves with their next work, Blackwater Park, is a testament to Opeth's greatness.

The Missing Particle is the second single released by Sentimony Records. This time, the label is introducing a young Ukrainian project formed in 2011: Specialmind (Alexander Radchenko & Evgeniy Pshonniy). With floating downtempo and deep trance grooves this release will touch your heart. Artwork by Ader (Tentura). Mastered by Makus (Overdream Studio).

Impera - Legacy Of Life - 2012

Not sure what the sole amazon reviewer listened to (1 star) or expected with the people involved, but this is probably better than Matt Alfonzetti's solo album with a slightly harder edge. In spite of Tommy Denander being involved, there weren't any ballads and rocks all the way through.

The Sygnet - Children Of The Future - 1998

Alex Beyrodt & Michael Bormann pseudo (pre) Silent Force effort. Not sure if it's because of the age, or production style, but this one doesn't click very well. Love both of these guys in other permutations, but this one's kind of flat.

Jaded Heart - Common Destiny - 2012

Fourth album in the Johan Fahlberg era Jaded Heart. Not the best one of the bunch, but it's a pretty solid effort as they all have been. Although the last song seems to have less polish than the rest.

Greg Kihn Band - Rockihnroll (1981)

For allmusic.com

With this album Kihn finally had the hit he long before deserved ("Breakup Song"). He also manages to recapture some of what made the early records so enjoyable. Once again, with both the material and the performance, Kihn sounds as if he is enjoying himself.
