open my computer and right click the device, you should see a format option in the drop down menu. Try searching the forums too, you'll find tons of information already regarding some of your questions

ok, first, turn off the device.
now slide the lock to the right.
now hold rec. button while pushing power (let go of power but keep holding rec. button)
now plug in your device to the computer and make a new folder (not a text document) named "Sansa.fmt"
and now unplug device and it will format it (it will also completely reset the device)

I also registered just to thank you. You are an genius indeed. I thought that I had "lost" my Sansa e260 (due to errors of mine). And I found your post, and did what you suggested, and bingo! The unit is "Back on tracks"
Thanks much mate!
